PETERBOROUGH – A Chartered Business Valuator (CBV) is now a partner in the region’s leading tax planning firm, creating a local option for business owners looking for expert advice traditionally sought in large cities.
Michael Riseley, CPA, CA, CBV, is the new partner at Holmes Riseley CPAs and Tax Advisors, bringing business valuation services to the region.
“A growing number of clients and business owners are looking to transition their business in the next decade and understanding the value of their business is a critical first step in the transition process,” says Matt Holmes, CPA, CA, and co-founder of the firm. “I couldn’t be more pleased to welcome Michael as my new partner in our growing firm.”
Matt Holmes founded Holmes CPAs and Tax Advisors in 2020, after spending more than 25 years working in the region as the leading tax planning expert, saving area business owners tens of millions of dollars with his tax-minimizing strategies. The team has grown significantly over the past 3 years with almost ten members working at the firm. Michael joined the team as an Associate Partner last year and assumed the new partnership role on January 1, 2023. The firm will now be known as Holmes Riseley CPAs and Tax Advisors.

Holmes Riseley CPAs and Tax Advisors offer a suite of services in tax planning, business transition, business valuations, and financial reporting. Currently located on Highway 7 in the old Rollands restaurant building, it will be moving later this year into the former site of Ganaraska Financial on Park Street, across from the new twin pad arena at Morrow Park.
Matt Holmes founded his firm in 2020 with the belief business owners in the Peterborough – Kawartha region deserved expert, specialized tax planning advice traditionally sought in large cities. The fast-growing business attracted several tax and accounting experts since its inception and in 2023, Riseley was named partner and the firm will be known as Holmes Riseley CPAs and Tax Advisors.
